As the leader of a next-generation Managed Services Provider, I spend a great deal of time considering what sets us apart from our competitors, and how to convey that difference to our clients.

In the almost 20 years I have owned an IT-support business, I've focused on telling clients and potential clients about the use of advanced tools, quicker response time, reducing downtime as well as other various markers of success.  Recently, I met with a new client who stopped me fairly quickly, and said "I really don't care about the technology, the methodology or any of the other behind-the-scenes processes.  I care about three things, anything else is irrelevant, and I don't have the time to concern myself with it".  Their 3 concerns:

  • Does it work, consistently? Do we need to worry every day if it will work when we get to the office in the morning?
  • Is it secure?
  • Can I reasonably predict the cost?

This resonated with me, and when I left that meeting, I realized this is something we need to implement across the board, in all facets of our operation.  Therefore, effective immediately, we are launching our "Plain English" Next Generation Managed IT Services.  What does this mean for our clients and prospective clients?

  • Simplified Proposals: Our proposals will now focus on 6 key points:
  1. Who: Which, if any, of your staff will be affected
  2. What: What upgrade or change are we making
  3. Where: Will this be a change to employee-facing systems, back-end systems such as servers, or cloud-based
  4. When: When will the change to take place
  5. Why: What is the purpose of this project/change
  6. How Much: What are the recurring and one-time costs of the project/change
  • Simplified Communications: In terms as simple as possible, avoiding "tech speak", we will let you know all relevant information.  It's our job to know the technical terms, not yours.  We will also help you communicate with your employees, in ways as simple and brief as possible, what they need to know about what will be occurring.
  • Simplified Implementation: Before we propose a project, and throughout the project lifecycle, we will work to ensure we are implementing a way that minimizes the effect on your employees, and, thus, your daily operations.
  • Simplified Invoicing: Our invoices can be verbose, especially project invoices.  We we limiting invoices to a brief project description, billable time, any licenses, hardware, software or supplies.  If you'd like a more detailed invoice, we will provide one upon request.
